hi, do your clowns do this? nip at your hand when you put your hand in the tank to move or do anything to the tank?? lol i was taking water out of the tank to do a water change and they were like attacking the hose.. lol and i finally was able to move some of the fish out into the new 75 gallon tank.. and yeah the clowns werent too happy with me! lol

do any of your clowns go attacking and nipping at your hand too???

I have a cinnamon clown that doesn't quite nip. She will charge and fan / splash water at me. It's pretty cool to realize how forcefully she can move water given her size relative to me and all the other circulation and water movement in the tank.

Clowns, especially larger/older ones definitely do this!! Very common, just be glad you don't have a big Clarki....I've literally seen them draw blood!!

oh wow!! that is what i am planning on maybe getting for my 75 gallon.. lol yeah these are the black perc or oc clowns..

Most likely they bite/nip defending their host anemone/territory. Be thankful you don't have a Maroon clownfish. They're the most highly aggressive of clownfish species.

its cute at first, but give it another year or so and the little nips turn in to full out attacks.. mine go from below and charge into my palms and I swear they almost draw blood now, they are like dogs, once they see you pull away and back off when they are defensive it only solidifies their thought they are doing good at defending and get even more defensive. its a loose, loose situation, I used to wonder why people would buy those goofy reef gloves, no I understand.

Had a large breeding female melanopus who attacked me anytime my hand was in the 120g tank. She never quite drew blood, but it was close to that. Rather painful and very annoying.

I had a maroon clown that would viciously attack me when ever I would stick my hand in the tank, it would go for my fingertips. It eventually got to the point that I had to remove the fish when ever I had to do work in the tank. I'm just glad it didn't bother any tank mates!

Mikefallen13 reminds me that my "attack cinnamon" never bothered the other tankmates, only my hand. The littler male never bothered me.

Lol, I love these stories because I have three clowns together (yes not the norm I know) with two of them spawning (B/W male x Onyx female), none of the three clowns have ever even though about attacking me. The juvenile actually associate with my hand If I leave it near the anemone for a while, he will swim in and out of my fingers sometimes just chilling like Im part of the tank.

Even when the pair has a nest they don't show aggression towards me, (they do occasionally chase the chromis from the nest)

My clowns bite the hell out of me anytime my hand is in the tank. Funny thing is my wife and I have done a ton of dive travel around the world. We have been on numerous shark dives and have hand fed eels. The only thing to bite me and draw blood, you guessed it a stinking clown if Fiji.

The black and white clowns in one tank have never attacked my hand, even when I have been around their anemone. In another tank though I have a pair of fire clowns, and when I put my hand in the tank one of them comes in full force at my hand. Usually it will charge/bite my hand once, and then go on its way like nothing happened.
