This looks like it will be a great video and I figured some of you may appreciate seeing some of the dives being done to harvest coral.

The film you have been waiting years to see is COMING! Black Coral will be viewable online June 30th!!! The film is available for pre-order NOW as a digital download or DVD (ships July 15th). Visit http://store.thebrotherswinn.com to pre-order your copy!

A Good Business... to get out of.

Black Coral is a documentary/adventure program that tells the harrowing, amazing and occasionally amusing stories of the Black Coral divers of Maui. It is an inside look into this closed fraternity of watermen that shows the beauty, the addiction and the danger involved in harvesting the Hawaiian state gemstone.

Interviews include living and recently deceased dive legends Jack Ackerman, Ricky Grigg, Robin Lee, and more.

Yeah, that footage was old, long before the modern unwritten rule of don't touch.

I watched it tonight. Some good footage and stories. Lots of tragedy and death, but to be expected when working in those depths and diving the way they did.

Black Coral is a deep water coral found in 200+ feet off Maui. The dives are technical dives where the risk of injury or death are much greater and aside from the physiological issues, they have the environmental issues as well... Like strong currents and doing an hour and half of deco with tiger sharks. They tell many of these stories.

If you're in to diving I think you would enjoy it. It's not necessarily aquarium related although many species we keep require very similar dives for collection, but like I said there is some cool footage and diving perspective directly from the divers mouth. It is a true documentary.
