black eye

I have a purple/yellow tail damsel that on one side of the fish is normal the other side his whole head is black, I have never seen this before, any ideas what could cause it? Thanks in advance

I'm assuming you didn't buy him like this. I've never seen anything like it, although it's been many years since I've kept damsels. Looks like a discoloration abnormality.

^1 If he is acting normal I wouldn't worry about it. It does look like a color abnormality.
