Ive had a snail lose its shell and looked very similar. Try doing a head count and if one is missing or you find an empty shell then most likely will be a snail.
I did some reading about it when it happened to me a while back. It can several different things but if i remember correctly its not something theycan choose to do, usually a parasite or something to do with the muscle they use to attach themselves deteriating.
I have lost alot of snails over time so hard to tell asvi leave empty shells in tank. That being said it is almost abperfect circular fogure with a very small nipple like protrusion.
I was originally thinking the same thing, but the more I look at it, there is no central hole(vent, oral disk, what have you) like a sponge or the 2 vents a tunicate has.
