Black Ich? Yellow Tang

So I have a new yellow tang in QT for about 3 weeks now. Treated one round with prazi to clear up flukes.... seemed good. He's eating like a pig. However, noticing small black specs on him now. Is this black ich? what is the treatment method for this?

Is this my fault? I treated once with prazi when noticing flukes. I did not treat again, now noticing the black ich


This time around should I retreat 7 days after initial dosage regardless if everything seems to have cleared up ?

I am typically not a fan of fresh water dips. But I have had a very good experience treating black ich with it. Just make sure that after the dip you let the tang sit in a separate container with water from the tank to let the dead parasites fall off. Oddly enough they will look red when they do fall off. And if some of the dead parasites end up in the tank you will need to siphon them out because I heard they are pretty toxic.

So I treated with prazi monday night. Past couple days i noticed an improvement less black spots , he didn't seem to be breathing heavy anymore. Just noticing now there seems to be more black spots again and he is breathing more rapidly.

Should I dose prazi again?

I dosed Prazi again (thursday night) .... I'm still seeing more black spots on him.. It's been 24 hours since i dosed the prazi again.

I'm worried the prazi isn't doing anything.... what other treatment should i be trying or should I give it another 24-48 hours before doing anything?

I'm worried about trying a freshwater dip as i've never done one before and i'm sure it stresses the fish quite a bit. However I have read it does have great results.

Shouldnt the prazi be taking care of this though?

I just take a ziplock bag, fill it with RO/DI water and float in the tank to match temperature. Then go through the process I described above. But the dip itself could be a minute or two long. All depends on how your fish can handle it.

Still some black specs on the tang we'll see how this round goes.

Any thoughts on number of safe consecutive doses of prazi if they're spaced out 3 days between doses?

I did a water change and redosed prazi again 3 days after the last treatment.
it's a bare bottom QT tank and I keep vaccuming the glass incase anything has settled.

I am seeing less black spots come back with each treatment but am still noticing some which obviously means the problem isn't eradicated.

I'm just wondering if continuing to water change and redose prazi every 3 days still seems like the best method to overcome this? how many consecutive doses of prazi is too much?

Are you using prazi-pro or something else? If it is not mixed thoroughly, an effective dose might not be making it to the water.

Using Prazi. I shake the living heck out of it before each dose lol.

I'm about to dose prazi yet again. I've been doing it every 3 days with a water change prior to dosing.

But I keep getting black specs appearing on the yellow tang.

Any other thoughts guys? I'm getting desperate.

I'm going to dose prazi tonight again. if in 3 days i still dont see it cleared up here's what i'm thinking of doing next.

I will freshwater dip the tang
while he's being dipped i'll break down the QT tank wash it out , all new filter media , fresh salt water.

my question is I need to have salt water on hand because the dip will be quicker then me breaking down the tank. after the dip should i just put him in new salt water in a bucket until the tank is cleaned. I can have the salt water mixed up ahead of time so the salt water in the bucket would be the same salt water that would be going into the QT tank.

is the shock going from freshwater to fresh salt water going to be too much for him to handle? i would suppose not after being thrown into freshwater anyway.

or is there a better way to treat this

As long as the saltwater is the correct salinity (same as he's coming out of) and the temp matches you should have no problems on that end.
