Black Longnose Butterfly

Went diving last week in Maui and came across a black longnose butterfly, which are apparently only seen around the islands of Hawaii. Thought I'd share!

Oh my goodness! I was just posting in another thread how this is my holy grail fish. That is just so beautiful. I believe the dark morph is also found in the Marshall Islands.

I saw one of these last Sunday while diving at 100 feet off Oahu with my friend who collects regularly... this was just the second he's seen on Oahu in over a decade of regular diving... yet these are often seen on the Kona coast of the Big Island in shallow water, where F. longirostris is much more common.

This morph reverts back to normal over the course of weeks in captivity.

sweet pics. a buddy of mine caught a large one for me 5 or so years ago and after a few months in my system in returned to the yellow coloration.

Amazing fish. Would love to have both a black long nose and a yellow long nose. Beautiful contrast.

I've seen a couple on Divers Den over the years, they're pretty expensive for fish that are ultimately gonna be yellow longnose

I prefer the yellow version anyway... LADD had a stunning pair a while back.
