Black LR

So I have been in the hobby a while and bought some LR and LR rubble a few years ago. I have been struggling with SPS recently and decided to take a better look at the rubble. Its black

I have been looking for something similar to compare it to and as yet turned up nothing. Its not slimy at all, its the actual structure of the rock. As you can see in the pic, one as the rubble is and one with it smashed open with a hammer. Any ideas? Could this be Lr that has died or been infested with something?

How are your water parameters. Does it smell like something died. Does it rub off, can you clean it off with a toothbrush. Some algae dies and turns black, cyano also turns black when it dies.

Water Params seem ok. The rock is black throughout, it seems to be made of black material like lava rock or something. No smell and nothing brushes off.

Do you think it could be some sort of metal ore; maybe test for aluminum, I know aluminum can turn black. If it's like obsidian I don't think that would cause anything negative. I find this very interesting.

I have a couple of Polyfilter pads in there to see if they would go a funny colour but nothing!

I will try and smash a large bit and show what it looks like internally.

Here is one small lump. Notice the dark black colour.

This is a larger piece broken in 2. Its looks dark brown here, the outside is black though.
