black moss

Hi...I am new to this community. I was referred by InLand Ocean. Unfortunately, they are out-of-business so I can't go to the store and inquire about our bubble coral. I have done some reading, but I can't find an answer to my dilemma. The edge of the skeleton of our bubble coral has a "black moss" growing on it. It just started. Is this a sign that our bubble is dieing? Is it a form of algea, and is it harmful? I would appreciate anyone who knows the answer to please advise. Thank you. Ann

without a pic, i'm stabbing in the dark with a sponge. some other info that would be helpful would be how long the coral has been in the tank, how old the tank is, how well was the coral doing before?

Black Moss

Hi again. Thanks to the two of you who left a reply. Last night I tried sending a photo and additional information about my tank. I am not sure it went through, so I am going to try to remember what I wrote: our tank is two months old. My husband changes the water weekly (20%). The bubble coral has been moved in the tank a couple of times. It was doing great and always full...now it seems as if he stays shriveled up. Oh, and our tank is 55 gallons. We have for fish: (1) bannerfish, (1) dottyback, (1) mandarin, and (2) clown fish. We have one fingercoral (doing great and growing), three candalactus (sp?) two types mushrooms, and two flower anenomies (who stay in hiding). So, can anyone help with the black moss situation???? (sorry I can't get the photo downloaded...I am only allowed 50kb, but my photo is larger)
