i have a pair of black perks and was wondering how old they have to be before they start laying eggs? right now they are about a year. let me know what you think? thanks

What species? Of the four species that are commonly called "black percs", two will spawn quickly and easily in cativity, the other two are MUCH more difficult.

The pics are from far away, but they look like Black Ocellaris. Very nice and fully black too.

Black Ocellaris tend to take a little more time than regular Ocellaris before they start to breed. But this is not a hard fact.

I really want to get some B&W oc's but even though every single store in the area has them I can't find any "nice" ones. They all seem out of proportion, to long relative to height for oc's. Do they all look like that or are they supposed to be proportioned more like regular ocellaris? They just look funny to me

JHardman, what are the four species you're referring to? Thanks

A. Percula, A. Ocellaris, A. Clarkii, A. Polymnus.
You can also throw in Domino Damsels, Two & Three Stripe Damsels.

Five actually :D I once gave up on a massive pair of saddlebacks & traded them to lfs. The next day the tank was labeled "Black Percula Pair". The female had to be 5". Caveat emptor ?

Edit:
Uh-oh, guess I should be laughing at myself  Won't let me delete it to hide my ignorance either :mad2:
