I am trying to squeeze a 10g under my 20g stand..it is off by 1/8", if i take off the black rim, it will fit.

My question, will this pose a problem? even in a tank this small that won't be full of water?

All input welcome and appreciated.

well, i have a 10g with baffles in it already....and being such a small stand, having clear sides would definitely be an advantage

I had a 20 sump long time ago that had no rim on it and seemed to be ok..never leaked...Of course it was only half full of water at any given time..probably around 10 gal.

I would guess if it's not going to be full it will be ok without the rim. I personally would silicone in some eurobracing just to be sure. You can put the eurobracing on the inside edge instead of on top if the height is an issue, but i assume its the length thats giving you trouble. Even a 1" wide strip all the way around would add a lot of strength. The only reason i would do that is because the glass on the 10g tanks is so thin. good luck

I'd do it, but then I lose 10g to my floor/subfloor/drop ceiling/basement on a weekly basis. ;)

My sump had the rim come off, and it seemed so shabby I never even tried to replace.

Can you remove top, slide in tank and replace top?

I like the eurobrace idea but then where do i find the glass? The only way to get the tank in the stand would be to shave about 1/8-1/4 off of the back two supports of the stand which is possible but would be insanely painstaking.

They have small sheets of glass at home depot, and you can cut strips out of it. If you don't want to cut it yourself a glass place will cut pieces to the right size for you. or i can cut it for you, just stop by my house this week i don't have much to do.
