Black Saddleback Clowns

Hello all. I am looking for any information on these clowns from the perspective of someone who keeps them. The search function keeps telling me the server is overloaded not allowing me to use it I want to get a pair, my local lfs has some. They will be going into a 29g nano, 20lbs of lr, some softies. Tank has been up and running for 6 months. I had a pair of Percs in the tank up until 1 month ago, since moved them into my 110. No other fish will share the tank. I have read some conflicting info on their level of care. Are they an easy species to keep? Any thing I might need to know before I give them a home?

I owned a pair for about a year that I acquired from another hobbyist. I had to switch them from my display to a quarantine tank and I lost them due to a thermostat failure.

These fish are pretty easy to pair so I would get smaller specimens and pair them up myself. They do get pretty large at about 5 inches or so and I think a 29 nano will be too small for a full grown pair in the long term. I would put the ocellaris in the 29 and the saddlebacks in the 110.

They are a lot more aggressive than ocellaris are too.

I handled a lot of them working fish retail in college and they are a lot more prone to infections like ich and brooklynella. They also seem to take longer to adjust to captivity and can be easily spooked. I would definitely quarantine these fish for about 5-6 weeks.

I have a pair and they have no aggression at all. They are very cool personal fish always swin up to galss when infront of tank.

I had a pair of brown ones many years ago. More aggressive then most clowns (( would say that only Clarkii and Maroons are more aggressive )).

IME, they are harder to pair up then other clowns that I have kept. They seem to "need" higher water quality then other clowns. My pair would get popeye whenever I slacked about my water changes.

Thank you all for your responses. I called a friend of mine this evening (he breeds several species of clowns) and he just happened to have 10 ORA Black and White Percs! So, I am making a short trip into Orlando this weekend for the clowns of my dreams!!

I have a breeding pr , they are not mean when the eggs are gone,( i remove them to a fry tank) but very territorial , I have had them for 6 years now and raised over 50 batches of young.. I have a batch hatching out tonight, I grow them out to about 3/4 to 1 inch before sale, have had some piccasos also and some bullseyes, the female is 5 inch.. the male is 3 inch, it has been a big challenge to raise out the young, not to many people raising these. they seem to get along with my other fish( I have 39 fish in the tank) no other clowns though.

All the store around here can't get them or keep them healthy.
