Black sand question??

Does anyone have problems with phosphates because of the black sand? I was told that you would with black sand.

I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but I had terrible hair algae with it. Also it is magnetic, and accidentally scratched my glass when cleaning.

Never had phosphate or algae issues that I could contribute to black sand, but like lowefx mentioned, it is very easy to scratch the hell out of a glass tank with it. The thing that always annoyed me, was that it never stayed "black"...due to the amount of debris that is shed from the animals and micro fauna, it always ended up looking like the black and white sand that is sold. And, it happens fairly quickly.

I love my black sand. I can't get my phosphates above 0.
