Black sand substrate?

I'm starting with some beginner corals soon. Hopefully some zoas and green star polyps first. I'm still research what I would like to add.

I haven't even thought about what type myself, figured I'd get the fish established first and go from there xD, that black sand should make those colors stand out though

Um, we have Hawaiian and it is ferrous. We ended up taking the magnet cleaner out of our tank because anytime you got close to the sand it would suck it up and we ended up with a few nice little scratches. I don't know if maybe it depends on the brand you buy or what but ours is definitely magnetic. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful and I would it again tomorrow, just not with a magnet on the glass. Now we just use an old credit card to scrape the glass when we do our water changes.

What name brand do you use ?

Oh I thought I read the Hawaiian was the one that was not suppose to be ferrous, but Tahitian moon was.... Shrug. It's hard to tell. I don't have to have a magnet cleaner

I have used the CaribSea brand Hawaiian Black Arag-Alive sand on 2 of my tanks, and it is not magnetic. I love it!

I plan to do the salt and pepper look. I'm probably going to mix a black sand with a regular sand. I have read that the Carib sand has some red mixed in with it so your not getting all black if that's what your looking for.
