Black sponge morphing?

I just noticed that a black sponge in my nano has completely taken on a new shape and form. But it's really crazy looking. There has been a black sponge growing on the bottom side of an overhanging rock in my nano since we set it up. It's been there, causing no trouble, going pretty much unnoticed.

I was just over looking at the tank trying to locate my porcelain crab (they are much better at hiding than I would have expected - but I did find him after all) when I took notice to the new shape that the sponge has taken on. It almost looks "lobular" if that makes sense? It went from being a normal looking flat sponge to probably a few hundred little nubs. Really interesting to say the least...

Is it possibly getting ready to split into a zillion little sponges and go gallivanting throughout my tank? Should I panic? We had what we think was this happen in our frag tank upstairs a few months back. We never noticed a sponge in there but saw all these little blobs floating about when we removed some of the rock work - as in I think this might have happened unnoticed and we knocked all of the little sponges off the rock when we started moving it around. It did not seem to have an ill effects on the tank if this is indeed what occured in the frag tank sump...

Curious to say the least...

I'll try to get some pictures of it later tonight and see if we have any older ones that show it prior to this shape shifting ordeal...
