Black spots

Anyone know what these spots are on my clown?

What type of corals do you have in the tank? Is the clown trying to be hosted by any of them?

They look like the black marks that clowns sometimes get when hosted by corals. Besides the looks, nothing to be concerned about.

All I have is some lavender mushrooms and some polyps. Haven't really seen him in them though.

I have to agree with what Todd said here, would have said the same thing myself.

Those spots are usually considered scar-like spots because they are usually caused by a fish hosting a coral that can sting (i.e. Zoas, Frogspaun, Xenia). Do you know where the fish sleeps at night?

If that is not the case this could be somthing else but at this point doesn't sound like it is affecting eating or the way the fish is living up to now.

My F ocellaris has that right now, the male had it b4 but went away. Haven't seen them try to host anything in my tank, I have a rbta that they won't touch.

I am betting you just haven't seem them testing the corals out.
I got this explanation from another site:

"Clownfish with dark pigmentation resulting from a reaction to stings from a coral or anemone. This usually poses no notable problem to the clownfish. The melanin [pigment] darkens as it reacts to nematocysts (sting cells). "

My brother's false perc had them, they went away and came back again. Wierd he can't figure out what they are either. The fish is very active, eating and healthy in every other way.

Mine is very healthy too. Eating. I guess I just won't worry unless he starts acting sick.
