Black Sun Coral!

THEY ATE! The Black ones ate! Thanks a lot Freed, I held it right up to the poly, and the mouth came out and took it. No extension yet, but hey, aslong as they eat. Will the mouths eat phyto?

Wow good timing, just got the email before bed. Phytoplankton, like tiny plankton creatures, very small tho. Im not sure if the sunnies can only consume meaty foods.

Ok, I'll stick to that then! I might use the phyto on non-feeding days (every other day...well Ive been feeding everyday because I enjoy it, but I assume that will slow down).

Hopefully the black ones will help me out a little by extending one of these days. The Orange guys, thier tubes get longer with every feeding, Im guessing that means they are becoming more comfortable and will start exapnding more and more...I noticed a couple new heads open everyday.

K thanks a lot Freed, youve helped me out a bunch. I will update this thread as things progress, with more pics, in case anyone is interested.

Im interested in seeing how they are doing as well!! I have always wanted to keep a black tub. but every one i have ever seen in lfs have been on their way out not doing so well!

usually when you first get them, they have trouble extending their polyps all the way out and it seems like it takes forever....do the following once a day for a week or so - grab a 5g bucket....transfer about 1.5-2g of water out of your tank into the bucket (with this process you are doing a mini waterchange)....put the sun coral(s) in the bucket with the tank water.....put a small powerhead in the bucket......throw in a good chunk of mysis shrimp, cyclopeeze (frozen works best), and even mix in some things like kent micro vert...turn the powerhead on and leave the sun coral in there for 10mins.....if you do that for a week straight you should see complete polyp extension....now take off the 'training wheels' and just feed your tank cyclopeeze....polyps should practically jump out....and then you can spot feed mysis with a turkey baster
if taking the coral out isnt a hassle, i would continue to feed it this way consistenly...maybe every few days.....its a pain but it really does keep them healthy

Nope, LFS.

Sorry guys, got home late form work, then Im in tommorow early. Will try to ge thtose pics around 9pm tommorow.

Some bad news..I might be losing my black polyps...just after I got them to eat too :( Ive noticed white "vien" like lines on them, it may be runners from my algae but I dont think so. Im guessing its tissue dying off.

If it's tissue dying off then they need to eat more. That will fill in and go away the more they eat. I'm sure they are getting pretty hungry about now. Nothing to worry about. Just feed them well every day for a while and the white lines should start to disipate.
