I wish I could say whether or not it had rostratum in it or not, but I am by no means a tang expert. I can say that typically rostratums have a much more elongated snout than scopas.

it most certainly should be, the only thing that may or may not be visible as a juvenile are white spots. but most rostratums are not readily available as juveniles, so there is speculation there. rostratums usually have a longer snout, but thats not always true. the green dorsal spine line is the best way to tell which is which in most cases. its just my opinion, but i dont believe that is a rostratum species - genetically speaking it may be a hybrid, but from my experience and the photo you provided i believe it is just a black scopas.

not a tang expert, so can't say for sure...but strangely, at least 3 if not more dealers in this area all have small black tangs available in the past 2 weeks... is this the 'season' for them?

the blue / green line by the dorsal fin comes later . My black was 4" before he started to show it . the fish in the OP to me look like Scopas..
