Black Tang Pairing

I have the rare opportunity to acquire two black tangs, for far less than a single would normally cost, anywhere. Sounds great, except they are not from the same tank nor are they a mated pair

I have read a great deal about them and they are reputed to be the most docile of the genus, even accepting of other zebrasomas in the same tank. I would be able to add them at the same time and have a tank that could house one until I found another home for it, if need be so I wouldn't be undertaking this unprepared

I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with these animals and has had two in the same tank. They would be going into a 6', 135g tank with 3 other fish: a trio of Box Anthias, which are very peaceful by nature. Any input and/or advise would be greatly appreciated!

I only have one black but also a yellow that are in my tank (265) also with a trio of square spot anthias . The anthias are far from peaceful , but leave the tangs alone. seem to like to beat on each other. (also have lyertails their favorite target) I've had mine for a few years now with no issues . my only concern would be of size . two full grown blacks my be a bit much for a 135, but if you have other tanks I don't think it would be a problem keeping them . good luck Ray

I know this will sound like many others but I'm currently planning my next tank; a 290 or larger. I agree completely that a 135 would not be an appropriate home for 2 larger tangs. Not one of those with a yellow, naso and blue hippo in a 65, who says he's getting a big tank soon, however!

I haven't had the Anthias very long, just got them from a friend who needed to move them. Pretty civil, this far but we'll see. I'm going to put a divider in the qt and see how they interact first. At the price I'm paying for them, I'd have a line a mile long if I had to let one go. I'm not going to put a fish like that in my 75 as a permanent resident. Not fair to a fish like that
