Black Tang?

Sorry I don't have a photo, but has anyone heard of a black colored tang but is not a zebrasoma, the head is actually the same head and mouth shape as a Hippo tang. It has white lips but the whole body is black its definitly a tang since I can see the scalpel at the base of the tail?

Sounds like an Achilles to me too, and they are very hard to keep alive in aquariums.

Tangs can change colour to a certain degree and a lot of them can become nearly black all over. There are a number of species that could fit your description.

It's definitely not an Achilles - the orange on those fish is very obvious.

Just saw an Achilles tang in Maui. If your goggles are cloudy like mine then they can appear to be all black.

Seeing the achilles tang in the wild is an awesome sight huh? When I was in Hawaii a few years ago I saw a bunch of em'. The best sight was seeing about 30 or 40 of them all grazing on the same rock. Awesome sight that I'll never forget.
