I would have to assume that it is NOT a quality assurance or strength thing as my Perfecto 65 has black seams on all 4 sides, but they used clear on the bottom and in attaching the rims... When I noticed, I thought to myself "Huh, just how much more does the black silicone cost that they wouldn't use it for every area?"

Black looks better and more modern IMO... For my next aquarium, I want a large rimless tank with black silicone

I have black silicone and I like it more because the bottom is black as well, so it matches. If I had white starboard, I think the clear would go better.

In the end, I think it's all personal preferences.

I'm a big fan of black. The nice clean crisp lines look sharp to me were the clear is just old and boring. Almost cheap looking in my opinion compared to black.

Either way the coralline algae covers mine up so I never see it after a couple of months anyway.
How does that happen?

Well, since it's just aesthetics, and especially if the clear silicone seams tend to get algae that you can't clean off, then i'll definitely vote for black.
