Blackish Red Anemone ID

Okay, here's my newest. It was sold as an Octopus Anemone but I've searched endlessly online and it appears there is no such thing.

I have lots of anemones and have touched nearly every common anemone out there. Thus far my rock anemones have been the stickiest. However THIS THING HURTS! It didn't just stick to me, it made my whole hand feel like the outer layer of skin had come off and the pain was crazy!

Thanks,
Carraig

I don't believe it's a hell's fire anemone. Those nodules on it are just simple pimple like deals, nothing fancy like the pictures of hell's fire anemones I see.

Any other ideas?

It's indo-pacific, and I've heard they get big too. I'll either need to get a bigger aquarium eventually or trade him back in.

Yep, it's an Anemone Species tank with 2 BTA's, a Bunodosoma Cavernata, an Anemone Rock with a bunch of Aggregating Anemones on it, and then the Snake Sea Anemone. I have a pair of clowns that host the BTA's and stay away from all the other anemones. I had a 6 Line Wrass but the BC caught it. I have a skimmer going 24/7 and a refugium to counter the waste buildup. And I have so many copepods that at night you can't hardly see through the glass it's so covered.

Thanks,
Carraig

That anemone looks scarey, like a sea monster. But I love it, thanks for sharing, want to see whole tank shot too. : )

wow that thing sounds dangerous and looks dangerous. if you don't want it, i'll take it from ya. i looked it up and nothing much really on the Actinostephanus hell . all i kno its a anemone from hell and it grows freaking big and stings... sucks blood probably. DO YOU FEED IT ANYTHING?

Just for you lookers, here's another pic of him. He's buried himself in a corner and is often drawn nearly all the way into the sand during the day.

Here's my full tank shot. The MH washes out a lot of color in the pictures.

The left side of the tank when looking from the front are my two BTA's. No flames on the white one please, I bought it that way and it acts healthy. It's a very light green in reality so no telling if it's bleached or not...either way I didn't do it ;-)

On the right side of the large rock in the shade is my Bunodosoma Cavernata (Warty Rock Anemone), and on the rock in front of it are some of my Aggregating Anemones (Anthopleura elegantissima). Some of those are very pretty.

In the far right, in the back corner is the new Snake Sea Anemone. I know that this isn't much space for them all but I will be moving to a far larger tank shortly. Believe it or not though, they all stay put and I have yet to have any skirmishes. I do feed them every 3 days or so shrimp, silversides, etc and maybe that keeps them satisfied. I also have the back filled with chaeto as well as a full time skimmer to keep the waste down. I do 5gal water changes every week.

My little GBTA used to be much prettier but was almost killed by one of my peppermint shrimp (which was then fed to the dog) and is just now starting to get bubbles again.

Thanks for all the comments!

Yes that is a hells fire anenome. This is the meanist anenome ever. When I say this I mean it will eat everything in your tank and will kill all coral, other anenomes, ect. When they sting you they kill the skin on your fingers instantly (leaving dead skin) and they are stickier than duct tape. They have one at my local fish store that they have gotten back twice already because someone wanted it so bad without believing that it will eat everything and it did. We fed it a goldfish just to see what happens and it is not pretty.

IMO I would not keep it AT ALL and if you do leave it in that tank by itself and get a new tank for your other stuff. There is a reason for the name "HELLFIRE" because it kills stuff and burns like hell !!!!
