Blastomussa Merleti

What is the biggest difference between a merleti and a wellsi? Is it the polyp size? Is either one difficult to keep and what do they need, lights, flow, food?

Wellsi has bigger polyps like acans, and also a skeleton similar to acans. Merleti are smaller polyps and grows in like a tube like structure.

-photosynthetic but will take food like brine or mysis.

Neither should really be that hard to care for. Just be sure not to blast them with too much light without at least acclimating them.
LIke Aqua-World mentioned, they fulfill their metabolic needs mainly through photosynthesis, however you can go ahead and feed them small meaty foods occasionally.
