Yes I was very pleased with the price, it was between this or a war paint scolymia But the war paint didn't look too healthy unfortunately but thanks guys

Yes I too think you got a great price. That's what I paid for a similar candy apple 3 years ago. In my area, nice ones of the quality you bought are going for $250-$3~~ish and really not selling from what I can see. This is based on what my 2 go-to retailers are doing. One of them just put 3 unsold expensive beauties in his display tank which he won't sell out of. Too bad because he'll rarely restock expensive "ultra" corals that he gets stuck on.
Is this scoly inflation here to stay since virtually all are wild caught? Are these high prices the rule now at most LFS retailers? In general, are prices in the ~$250-$300 range on-line as well, and $150'was just a lucky buy?

The higher prices reflect many wholesalers having jacked their prices on them due to Aussie collectors doing the same. The problem is not long ago greedy shops charged $250-300 while everyone else charged $150, the collection stations saw that and went ok, that must be market price so we'll raise our rates, and now no one can sell them because they're not worth the markup.
When everyone talks about price gouging being ok because supply and demand I'm not sure they've thought it through enough to realize that this is the end result and it really screws good LFS. Don't support scammy shops.

Thanks for the reply Organism. Your take on scoly price inflation is kind of what I was thinking about the root cause. I have no idea how rare or plentiful they are in the wild, but I kind of doubted it was a just a supply issue.
I've got to wonder how many folks will pay the higher prices we are seeing. If collectors & wholesalers see new orders slow down, maybe the market mechanisms will do their work eventually and prices will drop. I seem to remember seeing that happen with some desirable favites & zoas.
