Blenny's Tank Build (sort of)

Thank you. I bought a reef-keeper and the temp readings there tell me its between 80-82. However, I have a mercury thermometer that shows the same variations but 2 degrees higher. It's a cheap little $12 thermometer thats about a year old. So I don't know, I'm following the reefkeeper since its brand new. Either way, I don't see any negative side-effects.

The fan works great, I now have changed the lighting photoperiod. This new photoperiod not only cuts down on the amount of electricity used but the amount of heat transferred to the tank.

I used to run the MH from 11AM to 7PM

Now I just let the left bulb turn on from 10AM to 3:05PM and the right side from 2:55PM to 8PM
Actinics are on from 9AM-9PM

Reef Keeper Lite Level 3.
It really does make life a lot easier.....I have it monitoring pH and temperature.

And a Tunze Osmolator.

The tunze is great. Keeps the water level constant! It really is awesome.

This is now the mess that resides hidden under and behind my tank :D

I installed two of these, one in each side.

As far as fish go, I've been demoralized. I had a beautiful Naso Tang get caught on a pump that I'm now using as the skimmer feed. And after that had two anthias die, because God knows why. Anyway these guys have stuck with me.
:D

Spare no expense on the lighting! What did that cost you? and what kind of pump is driving your Octopus Extreme 200 skimmer?
Will you be using any sub sand in your set up.

Hey the lighting was actually cheap compared to what's out there lol It's a Coralife Aqualight fixture. 2 96 watt actinic PCs and 2 250 watt 10K MH bulbs. It has a built in exhaust fan that keeps it at a nice temp but kicks out a load of heat! I had to make a hole in the wall at the end of the fixture to vent the heat outside since the tank is in my room.

I think you have the skimmers confused? I used to have octo extreme 200 that ran on those italian sicce pumps. I now have an Octo DNWB-150 external I feed with some generic 500GPH+ pump.

I not sure yet whether I want to add more sand than what I have. As soon as I get some test kits if the the Nitrates and Phosphates are high I might add more sand to have DSB.

Couple of thoughts. The rock work looks great. I love the individual island look.

I would be very careful with the flag idea. Over time, the cloth will dry out and become a fire hazard. It also is insulating your tank from good airflow. That could be some of your heat issues.

Those are just some thoughts, everything else looks great. Keep us updated as the frags grow out.

Actually the fan does a great job keeping the fixture cool, specially now that I don't run both bulbs at the same time. But you're right about the fire hazard, under the flag there's a black heavy duty garbage back.

The whole electrical layout has two GFCI's.

Here's the leather again. This coral contracts about once a day, normal? This is how it for most of the day.

Purple green star polyps. I love this coral because when they grow they resemble a grass meadow :) .

BTW, I found what to me looked like an aiptasia at the base where this frag was glued . I emailed the vendor I bought the frag from asking here if she has aiptasia in her tanks and she said yes! So I couldn't pluck it out because the aiptasia was inside a little hole the base had. So I just got some epoxy and covered the whole it's in :D .

New Fish!

New Fish!

I saw him nipping at some sps and zoas I have in the tank :mad2:

I was putting seaweed on a clip but he wasnt eating from there, so I rubberband tied it to a rock and he seems to like that better because he's eating from there.:D Hopefully this will keep him off the corals.

here's the little guy. He is about three inches.
