Blindsides 65 (tons of pics!)

I wanted to share my build here on the sps forum
for all to see, first I will begin with a little background...

I have had tons and tons of tanks in the past, i would flip through them quick, i never really had patience with the hobby ( not a good thing ) wasting money on a TON of tanks. I have had at least 3 or 4 biocubes, 2 55 gallons, 1 60 gallon, eclipse 12 gallon, 2 jbj nano cubes, 1 45 gallon hexish shaped, 30 gallon oddysea, 34g solana, 40 breeder... and so on and so on ( no joke ).
BUT! i put a stop to it when i ran across an insane deal on a 240g (4x4x2) it was probably my favorite tank of them all, i had that thing ready to grow sps after a couple of months, it had about 12 or 13 i think holes drilled for closed loop, 8 way oceans motions, and reeflo hammerhead ran the beast. mag 18 was my return pump, i had 3 of the large lumenbrights was planning on lighting with 400watters!! and a 40b sump, also the protien skimmer nothing special, it was a ATI Bubble Master 250. here are a few pics just to get this thread started!!

sadly, it had to come to an end... but not because i ran out of patience, months past and i had tons of patience as i enjoyed putting together such a large tank (for me) but because i had a car accident, and guess what? i had NO insurance then... ooops! i was only 18 at the time, and im not much older now, i just turned 20, and i have a baby boy who is about to turn 2. also very diffucult to have such a large tank with already such a big responsibility. anyway i ended up selling the tank along with all of the equipment due to having to restore the other guys car due to not having insurance. it all worked out though. :) i now have insurance. :D

anywho... im back with a vengeance!!
I was planning originally to build a 40b packed full of sps, i began to build my stand, and i realized i can fit something a bit larger with the same footprint, i chose to build a 65g (36x18x24)

here we are putting it together

this is how it will sit on the tank, we where going to add full strips along the inside of the canopy, but decided 4 1" thick triangles and a few strips should work fine.

cancorners.jpg

we decided to leave the sides of the canopy closed, at first they where going to be doors for all around access to the lighting, but i figured the front doors and the hinged top should be enough, the back of the canopy will be open as well, for now. the stand and canopy are being built for future plans of it being a peninsula style tank, when ever we decide to move into a house, but for now it will be backed against a wall.

cansides.jpg

we also added the same columns you see on the stand so everything matches. the canopy is a total of 14 inches tall. :spin2:

and lastly a pic of the pf509!

should have been working on the canopy today, but instead im stuck here at home taking defensive driving on line, and here i am with 2 windows open on my screen, one for reef central, and one for the course. ha ha :lolspin:
