About a month ago I got a lineatus Wrasse from my LFS. When it came in it looked like its mouth was injured from rubbing aginst the glass. Since Ive gotten it that has healed up...and it has been eating like a pig since day 1! This past week I noticed it has been hanging in the shawdows a lot more then it was in the begining and just now when I was feeding i noticed that it looks like part of its face or eye is raised like a blister or swelling. I am trying to get a good picture but its hanging out a lot in the rocks in the back of the tank....or in the front of the tank where there is little light. I am worried about whats going on with its face! It was not a cheap wrasse and I dont want anything to happen to it. It is still coming out for food and eating well as all my fish do! But I seriously dont want anything to happen to this fish!! Its my favorite one!!! Any ideas or has anyone seen this before. I will try and get a picture before the end of the night...

Thanks

Your fishes face is swollen or is it the eye?

What are your parameters like?

He could have the start to popeye. Check that out.

Sorry guys...I have been trying to get some pictures... here is the best one I can get so far...

You can almost see the swelling around the eye and between the eye. Thats the only way I know how to describe it really...I will continue to keep taking pics to see if I can get a better one...hopefully this helps

I dont think its popeye...its around the eye...not the eye its self. as for my water the only no ammona or nitrite, nitrates are kinda high around 20 b/c Ive been trying to fatten up a watanabe angel. Phos are barely a trace. Other then that everything is the same its always been. The fish is still eating well. I turned off the 10Ks today and he is out a lot more...makes the pictures more blue but atleast he is out!

DId you net the fish recently? Did the swelling appear quickly or grow over a long period of time? Could be a bacterial infection due to injury. I would treat in quarantine with Maracyn-Two (double the dose) 7 days, Furanase 3 to 5, or Nitrofurazone 3 to 5 days.

The only time the fish was netted was a little over a month ago when he came out of acclimation at the LFS in to the bag! I am not sure when it started...I noticed it was hanging in the shadows earlier this week but noticed the raised area right before I did the post. i am on the way to my LFS now to do a water change so I will pick some of the maracyn-two up and hopefor the best! thanks

You can make a water change each day before adding the next dose if you are using M2. Use the double dose suggested for the first day Each and Every day for 7 days maybe 10.

Good luck,
Terry B
