Ime, no they wont. I got a naso shipped from Hawaii straight out of the ocean at 7" in size. The spikes were clipped (I don't like it when they do that) and they never grew back in the 4 Years I had it.

I just got a blonde naso at 7" in size and it has pretty big spines. I was able to get a couple top down pictures of them. Imo, they look better with the spikes over being clipped.

Thanks , they have grown a little but look to have stopped. You can get them sent in un clipped they put styrofoam on each side with rubber bands to keep the styrofoam in place, I know it must cost alot

Mine only grew very little too in those 4 years I had it and that was it. In the end, it was kind of some a small bump. Here are the spines on mine now.

At what size/age do they start to grow these? do they always clip these? I'm very interested in a blonde naso and I didn't realize this was a practice.

dviper that looks pretty close to full grown so I think they do grow back
I guess it takes a few years.
Jr not sure when they start , If they do not clip they will cut the bag and die from lack of water. Ask your local store if they can get you one un clipped and find out the cost

This isn't the same naso that I had for 4 Years that didn't grow the spines back. I bought this one 3 months ago with those spines from my lfs.

When I kept Nasos in my old Fish only tank they spines definitely grew back. I kept a pair of blonde Nasos for many years, and they got along great. But when the spines grew in there was non-aggressive slicing of the fish swimming so close together in 300g tank.

So I would catch the male and clip the spines with a toe nail clipper. If memory serves it was something that might have been done every 12-18 months.

The fish only tank was very low maintenance. All top off was tap water. Water changes every 3-4 months. Food was Pellets and Romaine lettuce.

Lighting was Super VHO

I have mine a year I think in July and when I got him he just started to show the tail points so my guess he was under a year when i got him . Sorry for bad pictures
