Blue Carpet Haddoni question ???

Hey Reefers,

I've had my mini blue carpet for almost three weeks; really healthy specimen. He's about 3 inches across.

He's eaten pellets, formula two frozen and two small hitchhiker bad crabs.

He's always open and very healthy....

Then this morning I wake up and I cannot find him; I think maybe he's moved someone else, I look and look and cannot find him anywhere.

Then I look closer and find out he's in the same spot against my rock next to the sandbed but he's completely shriveled up the size of a quarter.

Since the live rock has a small hole in it, that's where his foot is placed in and has recessed completely.

There is no mucus and no signs of decay around him. The lights have only been on for about 1 hour and he's still the same size.

His mouth is completely shut tight....

Do carpets do this? How long should he do it for? Is he ill?

I'm really baffled...

All water parameters are 0 with trates being 10 ppm but they have been 10 since he arrived and he never did this....

Can someone help me out, I'm really worried.....

My blue haddoni does this periodically (but my green never does, go figure).

If your water parameters are in line I don't think you need to worry.

:D

Catastrofe,

Thank you so much for replying, I was just a little stressed, this litle guy cost me a pretty penny and I've gotten attached to him.

My water conditions are prestine... :)

p.s
How long does your blue carpet stay recessed during these times?

Catastrofe,

Just to confirm with your reply, mine stayed closed for about 6 hours; it's now fully expanded and like before.

I hope this helps others that own a blue carpet haddoni understanding their behavior in our reefs.

Thanks for your quick response on my subject matter...

Does yours host any clowns?

Yes, it hosts a pair of orange skunks but they favor the green one. . .

Here's a pic:

Wow,

They are beautiful and I only wish my black ocelleris would take to the carpet but they didn't.

My LFS didn't educate me that the ocelleris in the wild prefer the Gigantea or the Magnifica but not the Haddoni.

I was bummed to learn that, but RC members said give them time about 2 months and maybe they'll take to it.

On top of that I have tank raised clowns which are worse than the wild ones to take to anemones.

I wish I had the Clarki or Sebea as I know they will host with my haddoni; oh well I prey that my ocelleris take to it in the future.

Mike

P.S
Here is a quick video of my two ocelleris, if you look closely you'll see my little blue carpet in the sandbed against the live rock.
