Blue Face or Emperor Angel?

I converted my 95 gallon Reef to a FOWLR a few months ago and ended up setting up a 45 gallon Tech Tank for my corals.

I've been in the hobby for a little over 3 years, but have always had reef tanks which didn't allow me to keep angels, butterflies, or triggers.

Could I put both a Juvenile Blue Face and Juvenile Emperor Angel in a 95 gallon? I know they grow pretty large and I want to make sure they don't kill eachother.

Right now the only fish that are in the tank are a Strawberry Dottyback, Sailfin, and Yellow Tang.

How many Angels, Butterflies, and Triggers could I keep in this setup?

I'm used to keeping low bioloads for the corals, so I'm a newbie when it comes to FOWLR's.

Thanks
Chris

I wouldn't keep either fish, let alone both in a 95 -- they both get HUGE.

Wouldn't put any triggers in there -- same with the large angels. Some butterflies would work.

I'd say you're stocked up on large fish with the 2 tangs, the sailfin really needs a larger tank. Unfortunately, 95 gallons is quite small when it comes to larger fish.

I'm planning on upgrading to a 240-300 gallon when we move in a year. How fast do they grow? My tangs I've had for 3 years and the Yellow is about 4" and the Sailfin is about 5". I ended up giving my Blue Hippo to a friend, once it got to be 8".

Do you think if I got the Juveniles, which are about 2.5" they'll be able to handle the 95 gallon for a year? Worst case scenario I'll just give them to some of my reefer buddies out here who have 200-400 gallon systems. However, if you guys think it's cruel and I shouldn't do it I'm open to other options.

What about Dwarf Angels and what kind of Butterflies would you recommend?

Thanks

Centropyge would be a much better choice than a Blue Face or Emperor.
Almost all the commonly sold Butterflies would find a 90 roomy enough.

My suggestions: Flame Angelfish and Threadfin Butterflyfish

Honestly, as someone is currently moving (( and the 3 tanks )) I would just stick with what you have now, and not add any more fish. It, IME, is a huge pain to move a tank, and its contents. I had (( yes HAD )) a pair of flame angels, some how only one survived the move -- which was only 30 minutes away and out of the tank for 5 hours total.

Thanks guys,

I definitely understand moving tanks and that's why I decided to just stick with the 95 and 45 gallons right now. It's going to be a pain to move them, especially my 45 gallon that houses all of my son's and my LE coral collection.

The funny thing is I've never been a fish guy and used them as decorations for the corals, but seeing all of these awesome colorful fish and the fact that I don't have to do weekly water changes made me convert. That and running MH's with all of the equipment the electricity bill started killing me..lol

The nice thing is we're currently living with my parents and waiting for the real estate market in California to stop dropping. We've been waiting for 2 years and it's still dropping:) There won't be a huge rush to take the tanks down when we move, so it'll give me time to setup the new tank and just transfer the livestock gradually.

Todd: Good luck on your move.. I remember having to move the 95 gallon and our 24 gallon almost two years ago. The 95 gallon took me 14 hours from taking it down, transport, and resetting it back up. Had to pack each rock in individual buckets and used 2 pickups and 2 SUV's to move the damn thing. Fortunately, we didn't lose anything. It was the corals and aquascaping that took the longest..

I'll go with a Flame Angel and look at a few butterflies to see which ones would look the best.

So you guys think a Flame Angel and possibly two butterflies would be ok for the 95 gallon?

Yes, I do. The real estate market in California has a few more years to go . . .

Thanks, I'll start shopping around for a few little fish:)

Yeah, the real estate market is insane. My wife and I paid $400k for a 1100 square foot house with a tiny yard that was 10 years old house back in 2006. We short sold it last April for $225k and now it'll be lucky to get $150k for it. Sucks being 32, married, with 2 kids living at my parents, but why rent and why run out and buy in a declining market. My parents have a 4300 sq/ft house, which is plenty for all of us and our two tanks:) My wife's thinking about the new house we want and I'm thinking about what tank and how to build the house around it..haha
