Blue faced angel?

So i just recieved my blue face angel and blue dot grouper on tuesday from blue zoo aquatics. The angel fish still hides in the rocks and wont come out to eat. He will venture at most a foot away from his hiding spot then if he sees me shoots back into the rocks. Is this normal for this type of fish? The grouper is already swiming around and eating.

Thanks

Give it time. Mines is still the most timid large angel fish I have. After a year or so, all the other large angels come out and he's still the one only peeking his head out the rock crevices until he realizes it's at least 30 seconds into feeding time and the rest have almost gotten their fill.

When he was by himself as the only large angel in the tank, he would come out similar to yours - speeding back to his safe house when he saw me. Once he's accustomed to you and your feeding ways, he should be out more. Mines never let me observe him straight up like my french/imperor will.

jhen,

what do u feed your angels i feed my cream angel dried seaweed, NLS pellets, mysis, and brine. Is there anything else i should be feeding them?

keep feding the nori, pellets, and pei mysis...make sure you rinse the mysis before adding to tank..can always toss in some fresh shrimp, clam on half shell, etc...
make sure you qt with prazipro and cupramine....

yes, typical behavior for the fish...it will grow to know you and associate you with food...give it time...if you really just got it, you should qt both fish and keep lights off first 2-3 days...

Like some else stated BF are among the most timid, Imperators are one of the boldest.

Curious if juvenile bluefaces are as timid initially, or even more so? I had an adult BF and as others posted, was skittish and was not an active swimmer. Did get better, but far from my juvenile emp who's constantly patrolling the front. And unlike my employer I don't know if I could have gotten the BF to eat out of my hands...
Beautiful fish no doubt.

Like the others have said, this species is quite shy for a big angel and along with the majestic is one of the two most skittish of the Pomacanthus genus. They will however usually get quite bold as they get larger and mine got quite aggressive at around 8" (he was in my 180, which was too small for him long term) and started picking on tankmates at this size. In addition to what you are already feeding I feed some really meaty seafoods like chopped fish flesh, mussels, clam, table shrimp, really any fresh seafoods will do, as this really allows them to bulk up and put on weight. Once these fish get settled in they are usually bulletproof.
