blue foam pad on return pipe question

this pad on my 9015 in sump skimmer got very dirty ,is this normal,the bubble stopper on return elbow pipe??

Yes, heavier debris will flow through the skimmer.

also i partitioned the sump with a tank divider with tiny flow through holes dominic told me,it seems to have worked
