Hey every one I bought a hippo almost two weeks ago and im not to sure what to do. he is been in my QT since.
Now when I first got the fish I put it in my QT he had ich when I got it, well I treated him with malalchite green for a few days. that's what my LFS told me. well he was about to die. after a few days ich was gone but I had ammonia in my tank so I changed all the water. and give him a break of meds since he wasn't eating or swimming and his color was gone. I left him like that for a day to chill alone. I called my LPS because he was bad almost floating in the QT they told me to put copper to see if he will come back for 24 hrs. so I did. and after two days he started eating and swimming better. so changed the water because my LFS told me to give him a break. he got better so he was fine eating like a pig and playing in a rock that I have for my HT or QT days later ich was back he was covered in white spots again. but his health is good. I added again malalchite green now for two days. spots are gone he is doing good and eating. what should I do now should I keep adding malalchite green? for how long? Or shuld I use copper. I know the cycle of ich I read a lot. so iguess now that is not in my fish is in the bottom doing his cycle waiting to look for a host again right?
since been having ammonia in my QT my LPS told me to use fraction(ammonia remover). they said at least ammonia will not hurt the fish like that.
My QT is a 10 gal not cycled its new I don't have sand only a LR that I bought for the QT 6.5 lbs I have to leave it there because I used copper and my DT Is a reef tank I know I cant use it in there.
so I don't know what to do. the only thing is want to help my fish. he is 2" long or 1.5"

Ok first stop listening to that LFS. Choose a treatment, either copper or hyposalinity. There are stickies explaining both. DO NOT use additives to control water quality while using any treatments, use water changes. Match the copper level or specific gravity of the tank with your replacement water so the levels stay the same. To cure ich the copper level or low salinity must be maintained, starting and stopping will not cure the ich. Using copper requires having the copper test that goes with the copper treatment you use. Hyposalinity REQUIRES a refractometer, do not try using a hydrometer.

Remove the rock, it absorbs the copper and other chemicals you put in The water. Dispose of it, it is probably copper laden. Copper can leach out at uncontrollable levels killing livestock. A tank where you provide treatment needs to have a bare bottom, and PVC hiding places only. Help control ammonia by removing unbeaten food and any waste you can.

I cured my hippo tang using hypo but I was able to manage the salinity level several times a day. If you can't ensure that evaporation won't cause the salinity to rise above treatment levels then use copper.
