calm down, dont panic, if our sstem is mature, all teh parameters are within acceptable limits, ou feed good qualit foods and nori and the fish has space to swim then the fish will ride out the ich no dramas, however if ou have it in a newl set up 55 gallon tank, with swinging water parameters then the fish will be stressed, ich is a stress related thing a healthy "happy" fish will take ich in its stride.

And...cleaner shrimp will not help ich at all. Can you inform the LFS employee of that next time you're their.

Cleaner shrimp will not help; they can only eat external parasites and dead skin. Ich is internal, and one study I saw proved (kind of a strong word, but oh well) that cleaners do nothing for it. If he's in your 55G tank, he's probably very stressed, which weakens the immune system and helps bring on ich. From the rest of that (sump, fuge, T5s), you're off to a very good start. But I'm sorry, a blue hippo will not take a 55G tank. They require at least a 125 or 180.

There are several good products that you can use in your display tank if you dont have a quarantine tank setup. I have used Kick Ich most LFS will have this in stock and is reef safe. You can soak his food including the nori in garlic, selcon and vitachem to their food this should help with his immune system and appetite.
I have a blue hippo in my 135 and I know I will eventually need to upgrade to keep Goliath happy. I dont believe you will be able to keep a healthy and happy hippo long term in your 55 either.

forget the medication get him some nori, sea veggies etc, and make a batch of food as outlined in a thread on this very forum, get him eating that and the ich will go in time. catching, and netting followed by meds will just compound the problem.
its in your display so just make the best of a bad situation.
