Blue Hippos

Moved On
I have two blue hippos each about 3". I have been noticing a pattern over the last few mths. Maby some one here can tell me if the are spawning in the water colum. It first starts in the after noon. The fish seem to be playing tag. Then they move to about an hour of syncronized swimming/Flying arond the tanks as fast as they can not moving more than 1/2" from one another through out all the manuvers. And during this time the Black part on the sides of there bodies turns to a light gray/white color. Both fish matured at the same time but my XL Blue hippo never did this at all and seems to stay away when this is happening. But any other time he plays with both of them as well.

Thanks JAson

i would agree with Paul on aggression ....i woulndt think a 3 inch hippo would be at a breeding age/size

Hippos get about 6 or 7" long and always swim in a school. I think thats why they stay together. And as was said they may be showing agression even thought it looks like mating. They would not mate in a small tank. Thats my opinion of course from watching them in the sea.
