Blue Jaw Triggerfish?

I have a Purple Tang in My Reef and I wanted to add a blue jaw triggerfish.

I have corals such as colts, leathers, toadstools, frogspawns, hammers, polyps, mushrooms, and my precious zoos. I also have shrimp.

Will a Blue Jaw Triggerfish or a Pair of Blue Jaws do well in my reef tank?

You may be ok with a small one in your 50g, but probably not a pair. I recently got a pair for my 220g reef tank here are some pics, dont mind the algae in the frag tank! It's a freaking mess! They are really shy at first but are getting better.

OOOh, thats sooo cool, that really reaffirmed my choice to get them.

That is some serioius proof that they dont chomp on polyps or coral.

i'd watch out for that purple tang beating up the trigger and stressing it out. make sure the trigger is at least as big as or bigger than the purple tang. those things are really mean...

and a 50g probably doesn't have much space left for a pair- even one is kinda crowded for what you already have in there that needs swimming room.

I just placed an order for two of these buggers male/female.

Has anyones shrimp survived with these guys in the tank?

I got the purple tang when it was just a pup, plus I have to upgrade my tank soon anyways so it should be fine.

Wow! I disgaree. Most triggers will chew corals to rubble- especially stony corals.

smoney- if you are going to upgarde, wait until you have the bigger tank. without room to swim, these fish wont be happy, and may not prosper.

What triggers have you had do this? My pinktail goes after snails, small fish, and feather dusters, but doesn't look twice at corals. Everything I've read suggests that most kinds of triggers may pose a problem for non-sessile inverts but usually leave corals alone.

hi i have a 220 with 3 hippo tangs, a sailfin tang, 3 clowns and a coris wrasse. do you think a pair of blue jaws would work

Almost all the rhinecanthus and balistids will. Things in the picasso family, undulated, clowns. Very few are actually trustworthy with stony corals. Your pink tail is one of the "good" ones, along with blue jaws, crosshatch, sarguassums, maybe nigers.
