i have approx. a dozen samll blue leg hermits in a 30g. i just added a cluster of clove polyps, clavularia sp. that were on a piece of live rock.
the blue leg hermits seem attracted to the new clove polyps, crawling up and munching away. i'm unsure if they are actually eating the polyps, or just "pruning" some dead tissue, algae, or detritus.
just how reef safe are these guys? the other polyps are open while the ones closest close up.
i've pulled the crabs off a few times, it takes not too long and others, maybe the same ones are back.
i've just had the new polyps 2 days.
any ideas?
