Blue maximas

I guess I'm kinda out of the loop, so I've got to ask. Why is it that we don't see any colored maximas anymore? I never see the gorgeous blue max's I used to see all of the time. I remember a day when you would see sites litered with blue, green and gold maxs. Now all you see are the teardrop ones, which aren't even close to being as nice. Did something happen? Exporting problems? Are they endangered? It just seems like in general that we don't see the number of clams in most vendors inventory that we used to see.

the teardrop clams are wild collected and AFAK they are all coming from Vietnam. the colored Maximas are aqua-cultured and were over sold in the last year or 2 so once more of them are grown to a salable size they will be on the market again

We are blessed with some great LFS in the Chicago area and I've seen plenty of blue maximas for sale. Maybe there isn't quite as many on the market but they are out there.

It's really disappointing because I much prefer a good colored maxima to a crocea. Maximas just look "fuller".
