Blue Reef Chromis

Are these truly as docile as what the web says? How have groups done in your tanks? Did they maul one and other? I have a 240 that is VERY lightly stocked and I was thinking about 12-15 of them. TIA

I have a trio in my 65g reef and they have done great they were my first fish and have made it through a lot. They are really peaceful and don't bother anything and Ive really not seen them picking on each other either.

I bought 25 for my DT 6 months later I have 11 left and have had them. Most died either for no apparent reason or were bullied to death, mostly the first reason. Their survival rate from distributors hasn't been great (50%) or less. If it were me I would look into a harem of anthias and stay away from the chromis

I started with 7 about a year ago. Lost one in the first couple of weeks and another about a month later. No aggression that I saw. The other 5 are doing great. They almost doubled in size. Great fish.

started with 15 about 2 years ago now down to one, they slowly eliminated one at a time till the last bully only survived, however I never saw aggression towards any other fish.

I had bought 3 and now only have 2 after 6 months. One died due to illness. They are a little more aggressive then my blue/greens when it comes to bullying from what I saw. They also don't like the blue/greens that are about the same size. They took out 2 of my blue/greens.

However, after they took out the larger blue/greens they are now docile with everyone and the remaining blue/greens.The smaller blue/greens have now grown to similar size with them and there appear to be no problems. I guess they must establish some type of dominance from what it appears.

The fish are pretty though. Very pretty. I wouldn't mind buying more if we could only get them at our LFS.

I started with 6 and down to 4 - I added 2 anthias they all swim together. they will pick on the weakest.

I started with 3 a few years ago and 2 remain. They do occasionally give chase but I've had the pair for a few years now, so I think they will coexist from here on out.

these fish have a really poor survival rate...should really be left in the ocean..

I have had excellent experiences with groups of three with these guys. They are hearty and adapt well to aquariums and prepared food. I have never kept more than three in a 120 though...

i've been able to keep the same three for over 2 years in a heavily stocked 29g... soon to be in a 50g tall.

I had 5 in a 60 gal tank years ago. Always chasing each other, though no damage done, some displayed bright colours others were more muted, not sure if this was due to dominance or gender. The largest ones layed eggs in the sand, and were tough fish which i had for years. Got rid of in the end as there constant dashing about after each other was upsetting the other fish.
Just my experience .

I had five in a 190 lt tank. Within days, the fish started to die one after another. Within less than two weeks, the dominant fish killed the rest.

If given the correct amount of space to mature, you will end up with one, or a pair. Groups are not stable long term.
