I know all blue ribbons are black when they are juveniles. Do all blacks turn into blue or are there two seperate speiceis? I was told they all turn from black to blue and its all one speices by a guy trying to sell me a blue ribbon eel. I want to make sure not to get scammed
Thanks in advance.

they all turn to blue from what i have read and understand. also they are the same species from what i know.

i have a ghist ribbon and that is another species

I'd go with the ghost ribbon as an alternative, especially if not going into like a single species setup or something like that.

Blue/Black ribbon eels are the same, as the black matures it turns blue. In the hobby most times they don't change to blue for some reason. I would agree with the above and go with a ghost ribbon if you had to get a ribbon. Getting the blue to eat is a challenge and a half. Ghosts are difficult as well but not as hard to get to eat.

Make sure your tank is 100% escape proof, all over flows, power heads, return pumps etc need to be covered. I lost my ghost after it went through my over flows and then tried to go into the return pump. :(

Thanks for all the advise. I was told and we will see. That these guys eat frozen krill. I have read all the warnings though but hopefully this one will aclimate and eat well.
Thank You all though

Needed to look it up--My memory ain't what it used to be. I had one of these refuse to eat and perish, maybe 15 yrs ago. Scott Michael's book "marine Fishes' (pocket size, great basic reference, cheap on Amazon) says that live feeder fish are needed to get them eating. He also describes an interesting color change sequence. they all start black, then blue, then a variable color depending on sex. A very, very difficult fish.

Yes thats what i ahve heard Tusk. Like I said I believe it has already been transfered over to frozen foods.
Thanks

I had a black ribon that was eating, but he escaped. He found his way into the sump and finally my retrun pump. It is amazing that they seem to find the smallest hole to escape. Frozen ghost shrip soaked with selcon worked for me.

i have had my ghost ribbon since Nov oof last year. eats very well. i read that you should feed an eel till they refuse. mine eats 5+ silverside every feeding.

not aggresive at all. just kind of chills till i knock on the glass then he knows to come out to feed.

If the system is monstrously huge you can try Strophidon sathete, as it is "ribbon like" based on pictures I've seen.
You don't have any pics of live ones, do you? ... also, are these available that you know of? Based on it's size I've never looked... just curious.
