Hello I noticed my blue spot looking kinda bad last night. I pulled him out and put him in qt, am currently treating him with an ain't I fungal/bacterial med. nitrate/nitrite in qt tank 0 along with ammonia at 0 salinity 0.020. My water in main display is right on mark, 0 nitrate/nitrite 0 ammonia. Water temp 78.9 and salinity 0.025 my maxima clam and 2 bubble tips are showing no signs of stress nor any other fish in my tank. Anyway I noticed some white spots on the lower part of my jawfish. I'm hoping it's not blue spout jawfish disease and just some abrasion from the rocks and Crushed coral will be removed. I have a JBJ 30 gallon rimless. My jawfish managed to jump out a few weeks ago I looked for him for 4 days before he finally popped up in the filter section of the tank. He did have a large pod population to feed off of so I know he didn't starve. He was eating fine in the display even with the white spots but doesn't want to eat since I placed him in qt last night. Could that be due to stress? Any advice would help a lot. Thanks

I just cured this its called blue spot disease. It is very similar to brook or Uronema marinum. The bad news is you don't have long before its to late I have seen it before. The good news is you can usually cure it in under a week depending on how bad it is. I did a 4min fresh water dip followed by a 30min formalin dip every day for three days. In the quarantine tank since you have one it is good to use something for the sores that are usually left behind like melafix or paragaurd. I found paragaurd does a better job in my experience. This is the only cure that I know of and have found that works for this disease.

If you would like more info see this link.

Best of luck to you. Blue Dots are the best! :)

No new changes, I got a cold over the weekend so I didn't have the engery to tend to him till today. He ate a little bit yesterday and today. He does not like the bare bottom in the qt tank, I put in a small 90 degree PVC elbow for him. I did give him a 20 minute formalin dip today. I just took a new pic forgive me I think I scared the crap out of him when I turned on the lights. He was knocked out cold I thought he was dead until I opened the lid and startled him.

How long did it take for the white spots to start fading away?
Thanks so much for the advice Meghann

I would put a small Tupperware container filled with sand in the QT. I've done that with all wrasses and gobies...it relieves their stress.

They won't go away so to speak. In my experience after the disease has been killed red sores are left behind as the skin basically falls off or gets eaten away by the bacteria. How long it takes for the sores to go away can depend greatly on one how bad they are. One I had lost his tail and some bone was showing. It took a long time to heal but he made it. I just bought one a month ago and it took me a week to kill the disease and a week for the sores to heal. He will hopefully be going into my display at the end of this week. Mine didn't like the bare bottom either but I don't like having sand in the qt as I have heard it can absorbe medication and cause you to accidentally over dose or when you switch meds it could cause problems.

Have you seen any flash or fast scraping against the bottom of the tank or on the sand as this is something I have always noticed? Also I have noticed that they tend to breath in gulps instead of calm smooth gill movement have you noticed this at all?

Thanks Kevin

That's the reason I like to keep away from sand as well. No flashing or scraping whatsoever. Breathing is normal no gasping or heavy breathing. I have not noticed anything of the sort. I'm going to buy him some live brine shrimp for a nice treat.

Update, Charlie's white spots have been looking better started fading away. I do believe he was just a little beat up from some sharp rocks or sub straight in my tank. I treated him with a formalin treatment 20 minute bath every 24 hours for 3 days followed by an anti bacterial med. I'm going to give him another week in qt.
