Blue Spotted Jawfish Behavior

I've had my BSJF for at least two months now and lately he's been acting very strange at night once only the acticnic blue's are on. He swims up and down and left to right very fast then takes a break, blows some sand in his burrow and does it again. He eats like a pig and is not aggressive at all. Is this normal for them? There is no way for him to escape so I'm not worried about that but I want him to be happy obviously.

Sounds like he's stressed IMO. I've had mine for 5 years now and he did that when I first got him. I think if you do some searching on the forums, you'll find a thread that suggests what you can do. One thing is tank temp. They live in cooler waters, not sure of the temp off my head. Also be sure to observe when the lights go out. Does he lay on the sand, or does he sit in his burrow. Mine has been sleeping in his burrow and covering the entrance for around 4 years, IMO I think he feels more comfortable. Try offering him some small dime size sea shells to help reinforce his burrow. Lastly, don't assume that your tank is escape proof. They will escape no matter what.

Just some thoughts,

Matt
