Thanks for the help Mia1974, too bad the picture doesn't show the blue one on the left because it looks like a good one!

They're broodstock from a new clam farm. The offspring should be on the market this year. I'd hazard to guess they're going to end up where people will pay what they're worth - Hong Kong, Germany, Japan.

From what I personally saw, US market is paying the most for clams.
Hong Kong dont pay that much and I never seen these prices in Germany either.
I never been to Japan, but I know from friends who know a major importer there that price dont matter as long as the fish/coral/clam is unique, so Japan is probably #1 and then comes America.

Weird,

My experience has been the U.S. is the least likely to pay a good price, at least on the bread and butter stuff. Being in Canada I've got to negotiate like crazy to bring the price down to what the Americans are paying because everyone watches what goes on down there.

I agree on Japan, they eat up everything rare - some of the stuff we'll probably never see first hand in North America. What was the pricing like in Germany? They've been clam freaks for a long time over there - for some reason I had the perception they'd appreciate the nicer stuff. That and the fact they've got their hands in a couple of clam farms has me believing they'll go over there first.

Doug,

I'm just coming back from LA and I can tell ya there's no high quality Max for less than a 3 digit number , sometimes it get to 200+ and even much more.

When it comes to A Blue Squamie, I think they'll be more expensive.

In Germany I never saw anything more spectacular than an Ultra Max, and the prices varied, they were cheaper than the states.

In Hong Kong they will pay US$1000 to US$5000 for a fish, but their clams are very cheap compare to America, possibly due to lower freight charges, but it also got alot to do for the fact that in HK, they are working ona very low profit and are based on high turn over.
