Blue Star Leopard Wrasse

I just purchased a blue Star leopard wrasse for the diver den of Dr. Foster and Smith. They had in quaranteen for over a month. She is 2 inchs long. I got her on friday acclimated him with drip process. Turned off the lights for 24hrs. I turned on the actinics the next day. He came out for 20 minutes. Today he was out for awhile, but I noticed that he was running his nose into the glass (i think he was looking at his reflection and couldnt understand it). I turned off the light so he would stop. He also eat alot about 6 pieces of mysis shrimp.. I am worried about his behavior in regards to seeing his reflection any advice? I have decided to run the light for less hours and keep increasing each day. I would love to speak to someone over about her behavior and advice.. I am worried. Her eating was a good sign. I think his top lip look damaged. I am not forsure if it was from the glass issue or digging in the sand...

Attacking the glass repeatedly, or just "feeling out" the tank trying to find the boundaries?

It is hard to judge. It looks like he is pecking at it. It might be classified as attacking not for sure. It doesn't look healthy?

I recently bought a Chaoti Leopard Wrasse from my local LFS, and he did the same thing, running up and down the glass, seemed like she was interested in her reflection. To me it seems common procedure, and now the Leopard Wrasse is doing just fine, she hid in the sand for two days, and now she comes out when lights go on.

Good luck w/ ur leopard wrasse.

Pecking at it probably means its picking stuff off the glass.

Does it look like its looking around at the glass before it hits the glass or just swimming full force into the glass?

The fact that you say the top part of the mouth looks damaged would really worry me. But you did say its eating mysis? Are you sure its eating it and not spitting it back out?

Usually the divided leapords are really hard to get to eat frozen foods. I was really lucky with mine & it started eating frozen a few days after I got it. If your SURE its eating it consider yourself lucky & hope the mouth heals so you can have a really healthy beautiful fish :)

That is an easy fix....

Just tell it to stop!
What a completely useless post, if you have no advice to offer then dont post a rediculous comment.

Anyhow, I wouldnt change my lighting schedule to accomodate the fish. It sounds like its just gettin use to its new enclosure. Mine did this for a couple of days.

Does it at least swim around your live rocks and look in the holes and crevices? This is normal leopard wrasse behavior and it should at least do a little bit of this.

Keep us updated.

How long do they hide for as mine was doing awesome yesterday morning (tore up some frozen mysis) but I have yet to see her today.

I had a divided leopard also. Mine was eating frozen mysis as well and all seemed fine. Then 1 day she just vanished. Still have no idea what happened to her. All tank params were fine and there's a canopy on the tank so I know she didn't jump out and get eaten by 1 of the cats. No other fish in the tank could have eaten her either. The sore on the top lip worries me. Everytime we have a wrasse @ work that develops that they don't make it. Good luck with yours. Hope you have better luck than I did as this was my favorite fish in my tank.

Alot of aquarist stress the importance of treating these fish prior to introducing into your display tank for internal parasites. Althought for me this wasnt an option, since I have no QT set up. I have heard alot of people with the same story (in regards to leopard wrasses) of the fish being fine one day and gone the next, some suggest this may be internal parasites.

Pecking like nibbling things off the face of the glass is ok. Pecking with any force or open mouthed would be very bad.

As well, I agree with the others about the damage. As long as it's keeping food down, you have a chance of it healing.

I need to get a picture of both of mine. My divided/blue star is almost jet black now.
