Blue Tang Diggin

Hi guys,

My Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) is digging all over the tank.

Anyone know why Blue Tangs do that?

[EDIT]

Whilst we're at it, the Blue Tang rubs against a smooth shell every once in a while. The shell, and NOTHING else. Like, absolutely nothing else. Just the shell. Every once in a while.

Or rather, it rubs against the shell a bit, then stops for a long time, then go back to doing it.

Blue tang does funny things. If you have a video showing what's going on then it will be easier. Mine likes to use his tail to kick a round rock from time to time. Weird fish lol

Haha, maybe.

I'll try to take a video of it rubbing against the shell.

I actually found *some* info on the web, where others have reported the same thing. Always a smooth shell though, and not rubbing against anything else.

Very odd. But interesting.

What size tank is he in? I only ask in case you're the same guy arguing elsewhere about keeping this fish in a 30L tank without adverse effects.

@sc50964: Yeah basically it's doing that! Except the shell is too big for it. But it's rubbing against a smooth, curved surface of a small-ish sized object, essentially.

Really curious as to what the hell it's doing that for. >.<

@suta4242: Yeah that'd be me. For the record though, because it seems to constantly be loss in translation/communication: I'm keeping it in there until it grows bigger, then I am moving it. =.=
