why is TTM only necessary for 2 weeks? and if the fish shows no signs of ich when i purchased it why not just let it be in the qt without the TTM method?

A fish does not have to have visible signs of ich in order to have it in its gills. TTM (read the sticky) exploits the front end of the life cycle and eliminates the parasite by not allowing the infective stage to ever emerge. The front end of the life cycle is highly deterministic whereas the back end of the life cycle is highly variable and in the extreme can last 72 days.

so my blue tang healed from not doing anything.. i know i should still quarantine all the fish but if i see how it goes for a month, 2, 3, or whatever and there's still no ich is it a possibility that there's no more ich in the tank?

Life cycle!!!!! Ich comes and goes so it may look like it is healed.

i understand the life cycle that's why i asked if i don't see it in 3 months would it be eliminated

No it wont be eliminated untill you remove all fish and treat accordinaly and leave the dt fishless for 72 days. Just because you dont see it anymore in 3 months dont mean its not their, if you know it was in the tank then it will always be there till treatment occurs

also i'm confused as you said when you quarantine new fish you just observe them but you also said even if you don't see ich it's still there unless you treat it..

I said all new fish go through TTM and Prazipro. Then I observe them in case one of the other parasites has slipped in. Remember that sources which run copper mask parasites and these usually show up around the 4-5 week time frame.
