Hey!

I recently bought an 8" blue tang at my local fish store and I put him in my 10g QT tank. How long should he be in Quarantine and what should I medicate?

He is very active and has no signs of sickness.

Thanks!

Are you able to get a bigger quarantine? Thats a huge fish for that size tank. Most use the ttm. There is a sticky at the top of this section you should check out.

IMO, you are going to have trouble in a 10 gallon tank with a 8 inch Hippo. At minimum I think a 20 gallon long will be ok, but a 40 gallon breeder will be a great option for that fish. I really don't know the time length for quarantine as it's environment is going to play a major role in this.

Also, that tang is wayyy to big to be going I to your 125 gallon tank. I would return it and buy and appropriately sized fish.

Honestly, I'm not sure how well that would work. I mean a 8" fish in a 10-gallon tank could cause the fish to stress out and cause illness I would think.

I'm just wondering if it might be counter productive to keep the tang that needs a minimum of 180-gallon tank in such a small environment?

Beside the size of tank, QT minimum period usually is 6 weeks (observation only). If you use medicine then 4 weeks treatment followed by 4 weeks of observation.

I really hope this is just someone trolling the tang police. I'm not the tang police, but this is absurd. 10g QT is fine, but you use it for fish that you purchase as juveniles, not mature. No 8" fish should be sitting in a 10g tank. I mean, even in your 125 display that's a big fish. Should see if you can return it and go for a Yellow or Kole tang, something along those lines. And buy a young one that's only ~2" :)
