Blue Tang pic in F & S.

I saw a pic of a Blue tang w/ Yellow belly on the 2nd or 3rd page of the new F & S cat. WOW!I want one!Dose anyone have and info about where to buy one of these fish?Or at least the common name so I can search the web for it.

Common name is: Yellow bellied blue tang..lol
They are expensive but well worth it... I am sure John could get one for you, as i have seen them in YR before and he is 100 yards down the street. I had one once and paid $100 for a baby...maybe 2-3 inches.. Good luck!

Initial research revels that they come from east Africa and are a deep water tang. Apparently, the yellow belly variant also has a red dorsal fin. I'll post more as i find the info.

I got one. Common name is african hippo tang, yellow belly hippo tang. There's one available at LA site.

They are found in lots of places in the East Indian Ocean. The price is because of the scarcity of collection stations, not depth. The adults feed on algae and are typically found in less than 10m.

Hardly any collectors in East Africa. Fish that are endemic from that area are rare in the hobby (but not necessarily in the wild.) You can see a similar phenomenon in certain other areas where collecting is rare or prohibited. NW Australia, Easter Island, certain tips of peninsulas of Mexico.....

This yellowish color is *very* faint in smaller specimens and becomes more pronounced in larger specimens. The Yellow Belly variant is very rare, availability is highly unpredictable. these fish are seasonal and not always seen in the trade, the majority does come from Africa, and these is the rare variant of the blue hippo tang.
Also please do your research when buying this fish, most are hard to keep and hard to adjust to home aqauria and starve themselves to death.

Photoshop hackery. They don't have nearly this much yellow on the belly.
