blue tang rubbing on QT PVC

I have a new blue tang in my 14 gallon QT. She's about 1.5-2" and she rubs herself on the PVC... and other things. Does that mean she has ich <for sure>? Should I start copper treatment now? Or should I wait a few days and monitor her behavior and see if white spots/more definite signs of Ich develop?

In my opinion, some fish scratch while adjusting to artificial salt mixes and that could be happening, but I would consider it highly suspect as well. In my quarantine setup I would wait for more symptoms before treating, but it is larger, well established, and new fish are there for 8+ weeks anyway. Lots of people treat with Cupramine prophylactically with great success; if you don't want to keep the fish in quarantine for two months or so, I would consider that.

Thanks. How big is your QT?

Is a 14 gallon big enough for a 2" Tang for 2 weeks? 8 weeks?

I'm using a 40 gallon right now.

I think you will have to observe the fish for signs of stress and decide based on that if he/she can handle that small of a tank for long. I have never tried to keep a tang in a tank of that size, so I can't speak from personal experience on that.

its probably flukes.....that being said - praziquantel or de-los from natl fish pharm...copper isnt effective...
