blue tang tried to kill itself

So a few days ago I was trying to fall asleep and I heard a splash noise come from my tank. I went and investigated, but didn't see anything out of the ordinary so i went back to bed. 5 min later i heard it again. This happened 4 times before i finally turned on all the lights to see what was going on.

and i found my blue tang (who i just got 5 days ago) out of my tank, laying on the top brace part of my tank. I quickly put him back in and he revived himself.

Today is 2 days after this incident and he now has ich. from the stress of being out of the water for 20 or so min.

I am reluctant to put him in my QT because its levels of Ni, Na and ammonia are higher than I like. My other fish ( 3 green chromis and 1 royal gramma) show no signs of ich.

He is acting and eating normally. should I QT him, even though the water isnt very good, or should I leave him in my tank?

I hate treating fish for ANYTHING if I think they are eating/swimming normally.

My opinion is anything I do to them could make it worse...give him the chance to recover on his own. Maybe if the situation continues downhill you may consider treating.

I certainly don't think putting him in a tank with poor water quality will help anything...

+1 if he is eating good just let him fight it. Try to get the QT going well asap just in case you feel the need to treat an keep us posted. I personally don't know enough but many do here as you will know! Good luck.

What size tank do you have? The only jumpers that I've had have been getting harassed, and I don't see anything to harass a blue tang. So I agree not to put in qt, but something doesn't seem to fit him in your dt. Royal Gramma's can be teretorial, but the tang should be able to handle that.

I think he either jumped out or he might have squeezed his way through my overflow and then jump out of that since my overflow is open topped.
This could be likely because the tang is small (only about 1 1/2 - 2 inches) since the slots in my overflow look about as wide as he is

I had a lid on it, but i had it off because with it on it lowered my ph and raised the temp a little, and it gets hot where I live. Needless to say, i have the lid back on now

Bad Fish!

Let the little guy fight it. I think perfect water is more important than meds. Plus, if there is already ich in the DT, he's just going to get it again when you put him back.

And if your Royal Gramma and Chromis are in good health they should be able to avoid catching ich.

But what size is your tank?
