Blue tang with a growth on his dorsal fin.

Within the last couple of weeks my blue tang which I have had for about 8 yrs started to have a growth come up on his dorsal fin. Initially the tip of the fin looked to have been scraped on something or broken. I have been watching it and it does not seem to be healing. It looks to be soft, and fleshy in appearance. The fish is doing great and eating well. He shows no signs of stress. My thoughts are either, a blood clot but by now it should have pulled of. Or, cancerous growth. Or, parasitic. Does anyone have a guess or know what it might be.

If it's cotton-like it might be lymphocystis. It's a virus and there are no known cures. Lymph is contagious so you should consider putting him into a QT until he recovers.
